Five of them are from Pittsburgh…

As you know, this blog is meant to showcase everything involved with my city. I don’t write about the Steelers, Pirates or Penguins. I will showcase what has the city at the top of many economic and cultural lists like it’s exploding restaurant scene that was showcased in “Bizarre Foods America, the startup scene that produced Apple’s “App of the Year” and what has been called the best skyline in the country.  I’ve done mostly photography posts as content but will be expanding that shortly with some Pittsburgh based fiction. I also started another blog at http://mikeonsocialmedia.wordpress.com/ to list all the social media resources, tools and ways to learn new skills online that I have discovered.

This post will list other local blogs I follow. So I don’t completely limit the audience for this post there will be non Pittsburgh sites included. Each one of these blogs has something unique about their city of profession to offer. Why should you care? I love combing the web for sites that offer something unique and valuable. Please give me any suggestions for future posts like this.

I Heart Pittsburgh is one of the first blogs devoted to everything Pittsburgh. They are currently looking for submissions for “Your Three Favorite Pittsburgh Nonprofits” that are going to be compiled in a future story.

Everyone loves food. I have met this Pittsburgh based foodie and she is at the forefront of experiencing Pittsburgh’s culinary explosion. Please pay her a visit and share your favorite restaurant.

The tagline on social media marketer Shawn Graham’s blog is, “Cause the status quo is meant for everyone else”..nuff said.

The New Pittsburgh Courier is a long time newspaper in Pittsburgh that caters to stories that aren’t covered by the big time media. Please pay them a visit. This story is about a pipeline that is supposed to run through some Pittsburgh area farmland.

Nathan Swartz is one of the top Pittsburgh based WordPress developers. His portfolio says it all.

Some people have asked me where I get the photo challenges I post. You can find them – as well as weekly writing challenges at the WordPress Post. The next challenge is to capture a moment of joy…I’m waiting for New Year’s Eve for that one.

Weekly WordPress #Photography Challenge from #Pittsburgh: Community

The first photo is an angle from market square showing a little of downtown. The city and entire six county Pittsburgh area has been gathering there since the local kick off for the holidays, Light Up Night.

I had some difficulty with this challenge. As always, I walked around downtown Pittsburgh looking for inspiration. I originally looked to some of the older, historic bars in town but nothing really worked. I may try again later during the holidays.

This photo is from my street. I love the atmosphere at night and this is one of my better shots showcasing it.

This is an angle of Pittsburgh’s subway in the Wood Street Station. The city is looking to expand the lines which would help bring even more people into downtown. Here’s hoping it’s successful!

Coming up after the holidays: a Pittsburgh based short story, an updated links page and the next submission in my hidden downtown treasures series.
